Room plans and table layouts: What we recommend for your wedding breakfast

We have tried and tested dozens of table and room layouts over the years. Here's how we recommend setting up your wedding.

The Drawing Room

The maximum capacity for the drawing room is 80 for a ceremony or 70 for a seated meal.

For a seated meal, the room can either be set up with round tables or long tables. We have sufficient round tables but please note that we only have 8 long tables (each seating 3 people on each side).

If you would like to seat 70 on long tables you will need to hire 4 additional tables. These can be hired from Abbots: https://abbottseventhire.co.uk/product/rectangular-table-6ft-x-2ft-6-2/

For more information on what you need to bring or hire, including tablecloth sizes, please see our article: What equipment do we need to hire/bring?

The Hall

The maximum capacity for the hall is 120 either for the ceremony or seated for a meal.

Using the Hall for your ceremony and Wedding Breakfast

We'll set up the chairs in the hall ready for your ceremony the day you arrive (the day before your wedding).

Once the ceremony is over, we would expect you and your guests to go outside for photos, or into the bar or drawing room for a reception drinks and canapés.

Simultaneously, we'll oversee the changover of the hall from ceremony into wedding breakfast room. This takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour depending on numbers and table design.

We just need to know the following:

  • Your seating plan (if you have one).
  • Any table decorations including candles, flower vases, etc.
  • Who your caterer is (we'll liaise with them ahead of the wedding date).

The layout of the hall will depend on how many guests you have and whether you would like a top table or not (not everybody does).

If you have the maximum - 120 - guests, however, there is only one option and that is 10 round tables seating 12 each with no top table. There is not sufficient room for any other variation or a top table.

Adding a top table

For wedding parties of 100 or less there is more room to add a top table should you want one. For 100 we recommend taking out two of the round tables and replacing them with two long tables seating 6/7 people:

For less than 100 people we recommend either seating fewer people round the tables or removing more tables altogether.

Long tables in the Hall

The Hall can be set up with long tables for up to 100 people. The plan below shows the layout with long tables for 100.

Please note that we only have 8 long tables (each seating 3 people on each side). If you would like to seat 70 on long tables you will need to hire 6 additional tables. These can be hired from Abbots: https://abbottseventhire.co.uk/product/rectangular-table-6ft-x-2ft-6-2/

More than 120 guests

If you plan to have more than 120 guests for the wedding breakfast you will need to make use of both rooms: The Hall and Drawing room. After the meal, we will normally clear a few of the tables to make room for dancing and guests to move around

Please note that the maximum indoor capacity is 160 people. If you have more than 160 people you will need to hire a marquee.

Please also note that Scorrier only has sufficient tables, glassware and chairs for 120 people, so you will need to hire any additional equipment you need.

Where to have the dance floor?

We recommend that you have your dancefloor in the room you are not using for the wedding breakfast.

If, for example, you have the wedding breakfast in the drawing room, then the dance floor would be in the Hall (we recommend the end closest to the Outer Hall for your DJ/band as there is sufficient power supply).

Or, if you are eating in the hall, we recommend having the dance floor in the drawing room (with the DJ/band in the bay window).

This arrangement will allow the band or DJ to set up when you are having your meal (as they often do) and give your guests who don't want to dance time to sit and chat at the tables.
