Scorrier House Conditions of Use for Weddings

May we start by welcoming you to Scorrier House. We aim to have as few restrictions as possible, however, there are some to protect the fabric of the house, including health and safety, local regulations and environmental laws.

Confirmation of Booking
  1. A booking will be confirmed upon receipt of one-third of the total price of the Venue Hire (“Booking Deposit”). This will be acknowledged by a Booking Confirmation letter.
  2. 9 months prior to your Wedding Day, a further one-third of the total price is payable. If the booking is made within the nine-month period a Booking Deposit of two-thirds of the total price is required.
  3. 3 months prior to the Wedding Day the remaining one-third of the total price is payable. If the booking is made within three months the full amount is required upon booking.
  4. Scorrier House reserves the right to change the price of the Venue Hire until confirmation of the booking.
Cancellation
  1. If payments are not received within fourteen days of the due payment date(s) Scorrier House reserves the right to cancel the booking.
  2. If the booking is cancelled by you (the “Client”), the deposit and any monies paid will be refundable only if the date is rebooked. All refunds are subject to expenses incurred. (We strongly advise you to take out wedding insurance including cancellation cover.)
  3. If Scorrier House is unable to accommodate the booking the total Venue Hire price is refundable.
Postponing a wedding
  1. If a booking has to be postponed both parties will agree on a new date whereupon Scorrier House will provide an updated Confirmation of Booking.
  2. An administration fee of £500 is charged for any wedding postponed by the Client.
  3. In the event that the booking is postponed to an agreed alternative date, no refund shall be payable but sums paid shall be credited in respect of the rescheduled booking.
  4. If the postponed date requires additional payment (if a ‘low season’ date is postponed to a ‘high season’ date for example) then a new payment plan will be issued reflecting any increase in price.
Deposit
  1. A damage deposit of £500 is charged as part of the final payment three months before the Wedding Day.
  2. Any damage(s) to Scorrier House, the grounds, associated equipment or the Stable House (if hired) incurred during the Period of Hire will be deducted from the damage deposit.
  3. Fees may also be deducted from the damage deposit to cover any unpaid corkage payments (see 7. Beverages).
  4. The outstanding balance of the damage deposit will be refunded no later than five working days following the Wedding Day. If there is no damage during the Period of Hire the full amount will be refunded.
  5. Scorrier House is not to be liable for the death of, or injury to the Client or its contractors or guests, or for damage to any property of theirs or equipment hired by them, or for any losses, claims, demands, actions, proceedings, damages, costs or expenses or other liability incurred by them.

Catering
  1. Scorrier House will provide a list of recommended caterers and their contact details for you to contact. There is no requirement to choose one of the caterers from this list.
  2. If you choose an outdoor or informal caterer who does not provide a full catering service, including the serving and clearing of all food courses, the laying up of tables and waste disposal Scorrier House, will charge an additional £200 (added to the final invoice) to provision for these services. Please ask us if you're unsure whether your caterer meets these requirements.
  3. If your contract with your caterer does not include the following services, Scorrier House can provide them for the fee listed below. Please book these with us before your final deposit (3 months before your wedding date) so we can make staffing arrangements:
    1. Tea and coffee, including several different types of tea and milk, cups and saucers: £2 per person.
    2. Portioning and serving your wedding cake, including plates and napkins: £75
Decoration
  1. You are welcome to bring decorations or appoint suppliers or florists to decorate the house. However, we request you not use duct tape, cable ties or pins/nails/staples on any part of the house (these can strip the paintwork and polish).
  2. Please do not decorate the bar or any surfaces of the bar room: The staff will need to use all the space to operate the bar.
Swimming Pool

  1. The Swimming Pool Garden is available on the Wedding Day for the ceremony and pre-dinner drinks and at all other times will remain locked. The Client is responsible for guests and particularly children during this time.
  2. The Swimming Pool can be used for swimming either the day before or the day after the Wedding Day. Please let us know beforehand so we can ensure the correct lifesaving facilities are in place. Stiletto heels

We apologise to the ladies but we request that guests do not wear Stilettos or thin and pointed heels due to the antique wooden floors. We recommend you put a note in your invitations.

Staircase & Landing

There must not be more than 20 people on either the staircase or the landing at any time. This is due to the historic cantilever construction of the staircase not being suitable for the weight. Please inform your photographer of this should they want to take wedding photos on the staircase.

Fireworks and Chinese Lanterns

Fireworks can be permitted with prior arrangement. Any fireworks must be supplied and managed by a licenced and professional company. Chinese lanterns are not allowed due to livestock on the Estate. Sparklers are permitted but please notify us beforehand so we can arrange disposal.

Confetti

Only dried or fresh petals can be used as confetti. No plastic or non-biodegradable confetti is allowed (including any confetti-filled balloons).

Candles

Candles are only permitted in the main hall and on tables. Battery-operated candles can be used throughout the rest of the House, Conservatory and Grounds.

Children

Children are very welcome at Scorrier House but owing to the nature of the venue they should be accompanied at all times. Scorrier House cannot, in any way, accept responsibility for their supervision.

Rubbish

Scorrier House provides facilities to dispose of recyclable waste with the exception of food waste. Please ask your caterers to arrange the disposal of food and non-recyclable waste (this includes takeaway food packaging).

Transport and taxis

Please note and advise your guests that it can be difficult to book taxis during the evening as taxi operators are often busy and there is limited mobile phone reception.  Taxis should be booked well in advance.
