Terms and Conditions
May we start by welcoming you to Scorrier House. We aim to have as few restrictions as possible, however, please take note of the following Conditions of Use which are there to protect the fabric of the house and adhere to regulations. If you would like anything unusual please just ask us and we will do our best to sort it out for you.
Definition and Meaning
Booking: means your reservation to host a wedding at Scorrier House.
Booking Deposit: means one third of the total Venue Hire paid to Scorrier House to confirm your Booking.
Extras: Include any additional billable items such as the Stable House, Shepherds hut, late night extension and any drinks packages.
Venue Hire: The price (excluding Extras) of hosting your wedding at Scorrier House agreed at the time of your Booking.
Wedding Day: The date you have confirmed in your Booking to have your wedding ceremony and/or reception at Scorrier House.
Confirmation of a Wedding Booking
A Booking will be confirmed upon receipt of one-third of the Venue Hire (“Booking Deposit”).
9 months prior to your Wedding Day, a further one-third of the total price is payable. If the Booking is made within the nine-month period a Booking Deposit of two-thirds of the total price is required.
3 months prior to the Wedding Day, the remaining one-third of the total price is payable. If the Booking is made within three months of the Wedding Day, the full amount is required upon Booking.
If you add Extras to your Booking after paying the Booking Deposit, these will be added to the subsequent deposit(s). If you make additions after the final deposit, these extras will be billed separately.
Scorrier House reserves the right to change the price of the Venue Hire until confirmation of the Booking.
Cancellation
If payments are not received within fourteen days of the due payment date(s), Scorrier House reserves the right to cancel the Booking.
If you cancel the Booking, the deposit and any monies paid will be non-refundable.
If, for any reason, Scorrier House is unable to accommodate the Booking the total Venue Hire price is refundable.
Postponing a wedding
If a Booking has to be postponed both parties will agree on a new date whereupon Scorrier House will provide an updated Confirmation of Booking.
An administration fee of £500 is charged for any Booking postponed.
In the event that the Booking is postponed to an agreed alternative date, no refund shall be payable but sums paid shall be credited in respect of the rescheduled Booking (if a ‘low season’ date is postponed to a ‘high season’ date, for example).
Deposit
A damage deposit of £500 is charged as part of the final payment three months before the Wedding Day.
Any damage(s) to Scorrier House, the grounds, associated equipment or the Stable House and/or the Shepherds Hut (if hired) incurred during the Period of Hire will be deducted from the damage deposit.
Fees may also be deducted from the damage deposit to cover any unpaid corkage payments (see Beverages).
The outstanding balance of the damage deposit will be refunded no later than five working days following the Wedding Day. If there is no damage during the Period of Hire the full amount will be refunded.
Scorrier House is not to be liable for the death of, or injury to you, or your contractors or guests, or for damage to any property of theirs or equipment hired by them, or for any losses, claims, demands, actions, proceedings, damages, costs or expenses or other liability incurred by them.
Number of guests
Scorrier House is licensed for 160 people. At no point should there be more than 160 people within Scorrier House.
At least one month before the booked date, you must notify Scorrier House of how many guests will be attending the Wedding Day.
You must also notify Scorrier House one month before the Wedding Day of any suppliers and timings during the Period of Hire; and any drinks that will be subject to corkage (see Beverages).
Period of Hire
The Booking of Scorrier House includes the use of the inside rooms (outer hall, grand hall, drawing room, bar room, conservatory and 5 bedrooms) and the gardens during the following times unless any extra night(s) are booked:
From midday the day before your Wedding Day
Until midday the day after your Wedding Day
We strongly advise booking any additional nights or accommodation options (Stable House and Shepherds Hut) at the same time, or soon after booking your wedding with us. Any unbooked accommodation will be made available to outside bookings.
Music
Scorrier House is licensed until 23.59. Music must cease at 23.45 on the Wedding Day (unless a Late Night Extension is purchased).
Scorrier House will close at 01.00 (1am). Please ensure that guests, bands and suppliers are aware of these times. If band/DJ equipment cannot be removed by 1 am on the Wedding Day it will need to be collected the following morning.
There can be no outdoor music (whether live or amplified) after 18.00 (6 pm) on any day of the Booking. All music after 18.00 must be played inside.
Scorrier House reserves the right to demand that any DJ, band or musician reduce the volume of the music. This is to preserve the fabric of the house and out of consideration for our neighbours.
Beverages
Scorrier House provides a full drinks service for your Wedding Day, including a fully stocked and staffed bar (accepting both card and cash payments).
Only drinks supplied by Scorrier House can be consumed during the Wedding Day, unless:
- You have pre-paid Corkage on drinks you have bought (£10 per 75cl bottle of wine or sparkling wine).
- You have opted for the 'Corkage Waiver' package.
Corkage fees for any unopened bottles will be refunded at least five working days following the Wedding Day.
Wines purchased through Scorrier House are exempt from Corkage fees. (Please ask for our wine list if we have not shared it with you already.)
Please note that if the wedding ceremony is taking place at Scorrier House, it is the law that no alcohol can be consumed in the ceremony room or garden at least one hour before the wedding ceremony. Please notify your guests of this.
Catering
Scorrier House will provide a list of recommended caterers and their contact details for you to contact.
Please inform us of your chosen caterer either when you book them or at least 3 months before your Wedding Day.
If you choose a caterer who is not on the recommended caterers list there will be a £250 one-off charge to Scorrier House and the caterer must sign our new suppliers form (this does not apply to evening food caterers).
Scorrier House will provide a continental breakfast for 10 people staying in Scorrier House each morning of your Booking. This will be served from 8.30 to 10.00am. Please let us know in advance if any of your guests have specialist dietary requirements or allergies.
Decoration
You are welcome to bring decorations or appoint suppliers or florists to decorate the house. However, no duct tape, cable ties or pins/nails/staples can be used on any part of the house (these can strip the paintwork and polish). Please notify your suppliers of this rule.
Please do not decorate the bar or any surfaces of the bar room: The staff will need to use all the space to operate the bar.
Swimming Pool
The Swimming Pool Garden is available on the Wedding Day for the ceremony and pre-dinner drinks, and at all other times will remain locked. You are responsible for your guests and particularly children during this time.
The Swimming Pool and Sauna can be used for swimming during the Period of Hire from 10am until 6pm.
You must let us know before the Period of Hire when you would like to use the swimming so we can ensure it is unlocked with the correct lifesaving facilities in place and the sauna (if requested) is warm.
Any person using the swimming pool must read and obey our Swimming Pool Terms and Conditions (these are displayed on the entrance to the swimming pool). If these rules are not obeyed, guests will be asked to leave the swimming pool and the garden will be closed.

Marquees
You must notify Scorrier House if you wish to have a marquee during your wedding.
With the exception of small gazebos (structures with a footprint no larger than 4 sqm), any marquee must be supplied by a professional marquee company.
You will be responsible for arranging the setting up and taking down of any structures with the marquee company.
A marquee may be erected the day before the Wedding Day and must be removed the day after the Wedding Day (unless otherwise agreed).
Stiletto heels
We apologise to the ladies but we request that guests do not wear Stilettos or thin and pointed heels due to the antique wooden floors. We recommend you put a note in your invitations.
Staircase & Landing
There must not be more than 20 people on either the staircase or the landing at any time. This is due to the historic cantilever construction of the staircase not being suitable for the weight. Please inform your photographer of this should they want to take wedding photos on the staircase.
Fireworks, Chinese Lanterns and Sparklers
You must notify Scorrier House in advance if fireworks are to be used at any point during the Period of Hire so we can notify our neighbours and move any livestock.
Any fireworks must be supplied and managed by a licensed and professional fireworks company. Scorrier House will request copies of their insurance and health and safety risk assessments before they are allowed onto the property.
Only quiet or ‘whisper’ fireworks can be used. Again, this is out of consideration for our neighbours and livestock.
Please note that it is illegal in England for fireworks to be used after 11 pm.
Chinese lanterns are not allowed due to livestock on the property.
Sparklers are permitted but please notify us beforehand so we can arrange disposal.
Confetti
Only dried or fresh petals can be used as confetti. No plastic or non-biodegradable confetti is allowed (including any confetti-filled balloons).
Candles
Candles are only permitted in the main hall and on tables. Battery-operated candles can be used throughout the rest of the House, Conservatory and Grounds.
Children
Children are very welcome at Scorrier House but owing to the nature of the venue they should be accompanied at all times. Scorrier House cannot, in any way, accept responsibility for their supervision.
Waste
Scorrier House provides facilities to dispose of recyclable waste (glass, paper, cans, cardboard and plastic). Please make sure this is separated.
Scorrier House does not provide facilities to dispose of food waste. Please ask your caterers to arrange the disposal of food and non-recyclable waste (this includes takeaway food packaging).
In an effort to encourage recycling, we will only accept 3 black bags of general waste. If you have single-use items or equipment please ensure they are recyclable.
Transport and taxis
Please note and advise your guests that it can be difficult to book taxis during the evening as taxi operators are often busy and there is limited mobile phone reception. Taxis should be booked well in advance.
