Terms and Conditions
Welcome to Scorrier House. We aim to offer as much flexibility as possible; however, the following Terms and Conditions apply to all Bookings in order to protect the property and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern the hire and use of Scorrier House (“the Venue”). By payment of the Booking Deposit, the Client agrees to be bound by these Terms.
The Venue reserves the right to amend these Terms where reasonably necessary, provided that no material change shall affect a confirmed Booking without the Client’s agreement.
Definition and Meaning
Booking: means the confirmed reservation of the Venue.
Booking Deposit: means one-third (1/3) of the Venue Hire payable to secure the Booking.
Client: means the person(s) making the Booking.
Extras: means any additional goods or services supplied by the Venue, including (without limitation) accommodation, corkage, and Late Night Extensions.
Period of Hire: means the agreed duration of use of the Venue.
Venue Hire: means the agreed fee for use of the Venue, excluding Extras.
Wedding Day: means the date you have confirmed to have your wedding ceremony and/or reception at Scorrier House.
Confirmation of a Booking
A Booking will be confirmed upon receipt of the Booking Deposit.
Payment of the Booking Deposit constitutes acceptance of these Terms in full.
Fees and Payment
The Venue Hire shall be payable in instalments as follows:
- one-third (1/3) upon Booking;
- one-third (1/3) nine (9) months prior to the Wedding Day;
- the balance three (3) months prior to the Wedding Day.
Where the Booking is made within nine (9) months, two-thirds (2/3) shall be payable immediately. Where within three (3) months, full payment shall be required.
The Venue reserves the right to:
- charge interest on overdue sums at 4% above the Bank of England base rate;
- suspend services or cancel the Booking for non-payment.
Extras shall be invoiced and payable as specified or, where added later, immediately upon request.
Extras must be confirmed in writing no later than 14 days before the Wedding Day.
Cancellation
If the Client cancels the Booking:
- all sums paid are non-refundable unless the date is rebooked;
- any refund shall be subject to deduction of costs incurred and a £500 administration fee.
If the Venue cancels the Booking (other than due to Client breach), all Venue Hire payments shall be refunded in full.
Postponing a wedding
A Booking may be postponed subject to agreement.
A £500 administration fee shall apply.
All sums paid shall be transferred to the new date. Additional charges may apply where applicable to the new date. (I.e. if a ‘low season’ date is postponed to a ‘high season’ date).
Deposit
A refundable damage deposit of £1,000 shall be payable with the final balance.
The Client shall be liable for all loss or damage to:
- the Venue;
- its fixtures, fittings, and contents;
- any associated accommodation or grounds,
arising during the Period of Hire.
The Venue may deduct from the Damage Deposit:
- the cost of repairs or replacement;
- additional cleaning;
- unpaid charges (including corkage);
- any breach of these Terms.
Where costs exceed the deposit, the Client shall pay the balance on demand.
Any guests, equipment, or property remaining after the Period of Hire without prior written consent shall incur a charge per hour (or part thereof), deductible from the Damage Deposit.
The balance of the deposit shall be returned within five (5) working days, subject to inspection.
Use of the Venue
The Client shall:
- ensure compliance with all applicable laws and licensing requirements;
- ensure that guests and contractors comply with these Terms;
- not exceed the maximum capacity of 160 persons.
The Client shall provide, at least one (1) month prior:
- guest numbers;
- supplier details;
- event schedule;
- corkage requirements.
Period of Hire
The Period of Hire shall be:
- from 12:00 (midday) the day prior;
- until 12:00 (midday) the day following the Wedding Day,
unless otherwise agreed or any Extras purchased.
Additional Hire and Extensions
At least one (1) month prior to the Wedding Day the Client must notify the Venue in writing if:

any requirement for additional hire periods;

and any requirement for additional services, including (without limitation) cleaning, corkage, and extended bar operating hours, all of which may be subject to additional charges.
The Client shall provide full details of intended use.
The Client shall ensure appropriate provision of catering equipment where required.
We strongly advise booking any additional nights or accommodation at the same time, or soon after booking your wedding with us. Any unbooked accommodation will be made available to outside bookings.
Music and Licencing
Music shall cease at 23:50 unless extended.
No outdoor amplified music after 18:00.
All bands, suppliers and guests (unless staying at the Venue) must vacate the Venue by 1am.
The Venue may require reduction in sound levels at its discretion.
Late Night Extensions
A Late Night Extension must be:
- requested in writing;
- paid in full at least three (3) months prior.
Late Night Extensions can be no later than 2am.
No extension shall be valid unless confirmed in writing by the Venue.
Music must cease ten (10) minutes prior to the Late Night Extension expiry.
All bands, suppliers and guests (unless staying at the Venue) must vacate the Venue one hour after the Late Night Extension expiry.
Beverages
Scorrier House shall provide a full drinks service for the Wedding Day, including a fully stocked and staffed bar accepting both card and cash payments.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, only beverages supplied by the Venue may be consumed on the premises. Corkage may be permitted subject to prior agreement and payment of the applicable corkage fee.
Corkage fees paid in respect of unopened bottles shall be refunded within five (5) working days following the Wedding Day.
Wines purchased directly through Scorrier House shall be exempt from corkage charges.
Where the wedding ceremony is held at Scorrier House, the Client shall ensure compliance with all applicable licensing laws. In particular, no alcohol may be consumed in the ceremony room or gardens during the period of one (1) hour prior to the commencement of the ceremony. The Client shall be responsible for notifying guests of this requirement.
Catering
External caterers must be approved by the Venue or subject to a £250 fee.
The Client must confirm their contracted caterer three (3) months before the Wedding Day.
Decoration
No fixings may be used that could damage the Venue, including duct tape, cable tie, pins, nails or staple.
The Client shall ensure all equipment is safe and compliant.
No decorations can be placed in the bar room.
Swimming Pool
The Swimming Pool Garden is available during the Period of Hire from 10am until 5pm and will be locked at all other times.
Use of the Swimming Pool must be confirmed at least 24 hours before the Period of Hire.
The Client shall ensure compliance with all posted rules.
If these rules are not obeyed, guests will be asked to leave the swimming pool and the garden will be closed.
Pool Rules

The Swimming Pool is not lifeguarded

Nobody under 6 years of age can use the pool

No loan swimming – someone else must always be in the pool garden if you are to enter the pool.

No diving or jumping into the pool is permitted

Running poolside is not permitted

A maximum of 10 people are permitted in the pool at any one time. Do NOT enter the pool if there are 10 or more people already in the water.

Any child below the age of 12 must be accompanied in the pool and pool garden by an adult (16+) who is responsible for that child’s safety on a 1:1 basis. If the child cannot swim they must wear a buoyancy aid.

No one is permitted to use the pool after dark.

No one who has been drinking alcohol/ illegal drugs is permitted to use the pool.

No drinks or food are permitted in the pool.

The pool does not have a heating system and caution should be taken as the water may be cold, especially if you have used the sauna beforehand.
Parking
All vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk. The Venue accepts no liability for loss or damage.
All vehicles are parked on the premises at the owner’s risk. Scorrier House accepts no liability for any loss of or damage to any vehicle or its contents whilst on the premises.
Vehicles may be left overnight if collected before 12.00 the following day.
Guests are advised to exercise due care and attention when walking between Scorrier House and the car park, particularly during hours of darkness.
Equipment
Included in the Venue Hire are:
120 chairs
100 outdoor chairs (for outdoor ceremonies only)
8x (6ft x 2.5ft) trestle tables (seats 3 on each side)
10x 6ft round trestle tables (each seats up to 12 adults)
A small trestle table and stable cloth for registrars
2 additional trestle tables for serving/catering use
A circular wedding cake table and tablecloth
Outdoor chairs and tables (approx 15 chairs/4 tables)
Table glassware (including wine, sparkling wine, water glasses and water jugs) for up to 120 people.
Bar glassware
PA system (for background music and speeches, not DJ use)
Fully stocked and staffed bar, accepting cash and card payments
The Client will need to arrange provision of:
Tablecloths
Cutlery and crockery
Any electrical equipment, including extension leads (these must be PAT tested and safe to use).
Decorations
Cutlery, crockery and tablecloths are normally arranged by your caterer - please check with them.
Marquees
The Client shall notify Scorrier House in writing no later than one (1) month prior to the Wedding Day if a marquee is proposed.
No marquee shall be erected without the prior written approval of the Venue.
Any approved marquee may be erected no earlier than the day prior to the Wedding Day and must be fully dismantled and removed no later than the day following the Wedding Day, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Venue.
With the exception of small gazebos (being structures with a footprint not exceeding 4 square metres), all marquees must be supplied and installed by a professional marquee company. The Client shall ensure that the supplier provides valid insurance documentation, including public liability cover, upon request.
Fireworks
The Client shall notify Scorrier House in writing no later than one (1) month prior to the Wedding Day if fireworks are to be used during the Period of Hire.
Any fireworks must be supplied and managed by a licensed and professional fireworks company. Scorrier House will request copies of their insurance and health and safety risk assessments before they are allowed onto the property.
Only quiet or ‘whisper’ fireworks can be used.
House Rules
Scorrier House does not permit:
-
the use of Chinese lanterns;
- stiletto or sharp heels that could damage the wooden floors;
- smoking or vaping within the premises, including the Conservatory;
- any non-biodegradable confetti, including confetti-filled balloons;
- any candles unless they are placed either on tables or the stairs and only during the Wedding Day;
- any groups of more than twenty (20) people on the staircase or upstairs at any time (the Client must notify their photographer of this rule);
- no dogs are permitted on beds or any furniture.
Any breach of the House Rules shall be treated as damage, and the cost of any remedial action shall be deducted from the Damage Deposit.
Children
Children must be supervised at all times. Responsibility rests solely with the Client.
Liability
Nothing in these Terms shall exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Subject to the preceding clause, the Venue shall not be liable for:
- loss or damage to property;
- loss of profit or indirect loss;
- acts or omissions of third-party suppliers.
Waste
The Venue provides facilities to dispose of recyclable waste (glass, paper, cans, cardboard and plastic), and only three (3) black bags of general waste.
The Venue does not dispose of food waste including takeaway food packaging.
Transport
The Client is responsible for advising guests regarding transport arrangements.
Indemnity
The Client shall indemnify and keep indemnified the Venue against all claims, losses, damages, and expenses arising from:
- breach of these Terms;
- acts or omissions of the Client, guests, or contractors.
Force Majeure
The Venue shall not be liable for failure to perform its obligations where such failure is due to events beyond its reasonable control, including (without limitation) acts of God, fire, flood, pandemic, or government restriction.
General
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between the parties.
Any variation must be agreed in writing.
If any provision is held invalid, the remainder shall remain in force.
No waiver shall be effective unless in writing.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
