Ceremony

Civil Ceremonies (Registrars)

Scorrier has a licence to host civil ceremonies in the house and garden. However, you will need to arrange for a registrar to officiate the ceremony and conduct the marriage ceremony. The registrar's office is a division of Cornwall Council called My Cornwall Wedding.

Celebrants

An alternative to having registrars officiate your ceremony is to use a celebrant. While Celebrants cannot legally marry you, they do offer more flexibility in terms of the timing and structure of the ceremony itself.  If you would like to explore this option, we recommend speaking with Sara Price, Sabine at Perfect Day Ceremonies or Kim at Humanist Ceremonies.

Church Ceremonies

Cornwall has some incredible historic churches. Scorrier sits within the 'Five Saints Cluster' of St Paul's Chacewater, St Stythians, St Wenappa Gwennap, Holy Trinity St Day and St Piran's Mission Church Carharrack. This is overseen by the Rev'd Canon Jem Thorold who can be contacted here.

Further afield, there are popular churches in Saint Agnes, Truro, Mylor and many more along both coasts of Cornwall.

Decoration & Dressing Hire

Emily Rose

wedding venue cornwall Paul Keppel Photography-547.j

Emily Rose's iconic blossom trees look amazing on tables or in front of the pillars of Scorrier's staircase. Her warehouse (only a few miles away in Redruth) is full of other smart and decorative items such as flower arches, centre pieces, chair dressings, neon signs, charger plates, mirrors and easels (useful for your table plan), sweet carts and more.

Out Of The Ordinary

DSC08728

Out of the Ordinary specialises in vintage hire. If you'd like different glassware to what Scorrier provides (coloured or cut glass, for example), Out of the Ordinary has a range of options. They also have some fabulous candelabras, tablerunners, charger plates for your table design, easels for your table plan, and vases for flowers. Their lanterns look stunning in the conservatory or on outdoor tables.

Little Eden Entertainment

IMG_0813 Large

Little Eden is your go-to supplier for bouncy castles, chocolate fountains, ice-cream trikes, photobooths, light-up letters and more party paraphernalia. Have a look at their website for the huge range of items they offer.

Lovebite Creative

Wedding_props_cornwall-1

Lovebite provides most of the decor and props for festivals at Scorrier, so if you're looking for festival vibes at your wedding (think flags, festoon, bunting, quirky signs and props), get in touch with Lovebite. Also check out their lawn games which provide great summer entertainment for kids and adults.

Event Equipment

Your caterer will usually arrange the hire of things like cutlery, crockery and table linen on your behalf. However, if you want to make your own order or simply browse the range of cutlery and crockery on offer (there are many!), have a look at Abbotts or Trevarno.

Fireworks

Please note that only fireworks from one of the companies below can be used at Scorrier. Out of respect for our neighbours and livestock, only reduced noise or 'whisper' fireworks can be used.

Angel Fire Pyrotechnics

As the name suggests, Angel Fire Pyrotechnics specialises in pyrotechnics, such as the flame projectors pictured above. They can arrange displays to music and day time displays using coloured smoke.

Sonic Fireworks

Wedding fireworks

Sonic Fireworks are familiar with Scorrier and how to use the landscape to create the best effect. Fireworks can be set to your choice of music (all speakers are supplied by Sonic).

Florists

Whether it's just your bouquet and buttonholes, or decorating the stairs, tables and more, these florists are sure to create beautiful arrangements for your special day.

Green Rabbit Flowers

Gemma grows her cut flowers near Mylor, ensuring everything is seasonal and sustainable.

Perdies Flowers

Perdie has created more than a dozen different designs for the staircase at Scorrier, all outstanding!

The Flower Shed

The Flower Shed can either deliver fresh flowers if you plan on making your own arrangements or their team can do everything for you.

George Mackay

George has created floral arrangements for The Ivy, Tate Modern, Chanel and dozens of other high-profile names.

Twigs & Greens

Jen is based on a beautiful flower farm just outside of Perranporth, with the fabulous Petalon Flower Farm nearby

Vintage & Bloom

John and Angela have decades of experience between them and are very familiar with Scorrier and its different possibilities.

Wedding Flowers in Cornwall

A.k.a Anna Sawle uses locally grown flowers to create some fabulous displays, such as that pictured below. Anna is based nearby in St Agnes and has won dozens of awards for her wedding flowers.

Marquees & Stretch Tents

You must notify Scorrier House if you wish to have a marquee during your wedding so we can ensure the setup and takedown do not interfere with other events taking place at the house.

With the exception of small gazebos (structures with a footprint no larger than 4 sqm), any marquee must be supplied by a professional marquee company (such as those listed here).

Scorrier House is licensed for 160 people, so if your wedding reception is more than 160 people, then you must have a marquee (if you have more than 130 guests we generally advise having a marquee but it's not essential).

Absolute Canvas

DSC_0939

Absolute Canvas has put up numerous marquees of varying sizes on the lawn by the conservatory. We recommend having windowed panels on the side facing the parkland (such as those above) to give the best view. Power can be supplied from the house, so there's no need for a generator. Add-ons include hard flooring, dance floor, lighting and linings.

Jabula Stretch Tents

_E6A4093

If you don't require a marquee and yet you want to have some elements of your wedding day outside (be it drinks, speeches or dancing), you might consider a stretch tent. These are much cheaper than a marquee, come in all different sizes and are a good insurance against the Cornish weather! Jabular are regulars at Scorrier for both festivals and weddings and have a great selection of different size stretch tents.

Music

Cornwall has a huge range of musicians, bands and DJs who can play at your wedding. To make things easier, we've divided 'music' into three categories:

'Day-time' for the classical or acoustic acts who can play during the ceremony and drinks reception;

'Bands' that will play your first dance and general evening dancing (including ceilidh bands);

'DJs' that can either play before or after the band or replace them altogether.

It's worth reading the descriptions below as some day-time acts can double up as your band/DJ for the evening.

Day-time

Jo Francis

Jo is a talented local acoustic guitarist who can also DJ during the evening party.

Our Atlantic Routes

Mac and Laura are a singer/songwriter duo with a folk acoustic style. They love weddings when they're not touring or recording.

Scenic Route

Jenna and Steve are an acoustic duo (Jenna vocals and Steve guitar) who can provide live music for your ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and even fill in the gaps before your band starts.

Roger Miners

Roger is an old friend of Scorrier, having played here for over 10 years or more. His baby grand electric piano looks stunning in the grand hall or any of our outdoor ceremony locations. Roger will normally play for your ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast.

Ruth is a highly accomplished harpist who has played with Goldfrapp and the BBC Concert Orchestra. She lives locally and plays weddings when not touring.

Alice Wall / Seastrings

As a solo act, Alice can play the harp during the ceremony and provide background music for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast (often relocating between the two). Together with Juliet Walshe, violinist, they create Seastrings, blending classic and contemporary string music.

Bands

Fastlane

Fastlane’s diverse repertoire spans from modern anthems by The Killers and Razorlight to timeless classics from The Police and The Who. Their unique approach to covering songs, including those rarely attempted by other local bands, sets them apart from the crowd.

Black Friday

The six-piece Black Friday is influenced by their Irish and Cornish roots and their folk heroes. Catchy original songs and take on folk favourites by the likes of Flogging Molly and The Pogues will keep you and your party dancing all night.

Helm & The All Star Band

Helm has played intimate weddings and packed festivals (including our own Great Estate Festival). Together with the All Star Band, they form an incredibly talented group that can perform all of your favourite covers.

Josh Curnow

Josh has been a full time touring singer-songwriter for over 7 years, playing a huge range of music from stripped back covers to really getting the crowd jumping with his stomp box, guitar and piano.

The Stone Roots

One of the best Cornish bands for 90s and 00s throwback covers! Hire them as a 4-piece band or scale up to 8-piece to add some brass.

The Swing Empire

The Swing Empire is a 7-piece band straight out of the roaring 20s. Their classic jazz covers are bound to have everyone dancing while offering something a little different.

Freedom Fields

Freedom Fields is not just a folk band; they also perform ceilidhs, DJ, and ceremony music - a great all-in-one group for weddings.

The Rosevilles Ceilidh

All the band members of the Rosevilles are very local to Scorrier and their ceilidhs are fun and inclusive (regardless of whether your guests have done ceilidh before). They normally recommend having the ceilidh after the wedding breakfast to get everyone up and moving, but they can be flexible with your itinerary.

Reel Big Jig

The Reel Big Jig provides traditional Irish, Scottish and Cornish folk tunes with a caller who organises formation dances. A fun ice breaker for guests who may not know each other and travel from all over for the special day.

DJs

Get Lost and Found

Rob Wilson runs a number of different music events at Scorrier and plays festivals throughout the southwest. His style is contemporary but incorporates a lot of classics that everybody loves.

John Green

John Green has DJ-ed across Cornwall for years. He is also a lighting engineer, meaning you get an impressive array of mood and dance lighting with his packages.

DJ Services Cornwall

Tom Blee runs DJ Services, a professional wedding DJ outfit. Check out their VW DJ booths - a fun addition to any dance floor.

Little Eden Entertainment

Already listed above for their event equipment, Little Eden also provides DJ services and PA systems.

R2 Events

Stu at R2 Events is very local, meaning all the DJ equipment can be set up before your wedding day and taken down the day afterwards (unlike some DJs who want to set up right before the first dance).

Photographers

We recommend choosing a photographer or videographer who has been to Scorrier House before; they will know all the best spots in the house and garden and how the light changes throughout the day.

Wedding Planners

Scorrier House provide wedding coordination in the run-up to and on your wedding day. However, if you would like a wedding planner, i.e. somebody who suggests and books all of your suppliers, plans your itinerary and truly takes the stress out of 'wedmin', then we'd recommend you contact either Jenny or Hazel.

Jenny Wren

Jenny has planned some spectacular weddings at Scorrier in the past. She lives locally so knows all the best suppliers personally.

Hazel Parsons

Hazel works with a number of different venues across Cornwall. Whatever your budget she can find a package that works for you.
